Beautiful large hand decorated pink lustre moulded floral pattern jug. This wonderful antique item is perfect as a decorative piece, to hold spring or summer blooms such as tulips as shown in one of the pictures.
The pattern of a large pink rose is hand painted in lustre, and the main bloom is surrounded by a bouquet of smaller flowers, buds, leaves and berries in a polychrome palette.
The body of the jug is moulded with an indented bobbled effect, at the front running up to the spout or lip is a band of blue dashes. Moulded leaves flank the handle at the top and bottom and these are outlined in blue. The seam behind the handle has some blue dashes reminiscent of stitching.
This jug would be a great starting point for a collection of pink lustre, staffordshire jugs or floral decorated items.
The most likely date and place of manufacture is probably from the nineteenth century and presumed English in origin, from Staffordshire in the early to mid nineteenth century. On the base the only mark is a blue circle or zero.
Condition is good for an antique item, there is a little discoloration around the spout area, and a couple of pinhead small nibbles to the rim, and a nibble or chip to the uptick of the handle. These small faults are hard to spot unless examining in close detail.
The glaze is crazed, as expected in an item of this age. Please see the photos to satisfy yourself of the condition.
Size approx height 21cm, handle to spout 18cm, body diameter 14cm, base diameter 10.5cm.
We are able to post out parcels from Metropolitan France and shipping fees are shown. Please allow plenty of transit time, as European post is notoriously slow!
*The customer is responsible for any import duties incurred for an item. We will require a telephone number to add to the customs forms, to help prevent any delays or transit problems. If you refuse delivery of an item due to customs costs, please be aware that your parcel's postage costs will be forfeit, although we are happy to refund the item purchase price upon return.
**Please also note that most deliveries within France and some other European Union countries are usually made to a Pont Relais collection point, there are usually a number of these located in shops and supermarkets in each town, and you will be given the opportunity to specify which one you prefer if this service is available for your location. Otherwise I will select the shop with the longest opening hours within your area. Deliveries to most other European destinations are generally to your doorstep unless it is much cheaper to use Pont Relais.
***Currently deliveries to the UK may be impacted by Brexit paperwork and procedural delays. This situation is becoming easier as time goes by. The sales tax is being included in any sales so there should be nothing extra due to pay when your parcel arrives, subject to customs clearance.
Our items are carefully selected antique and vintage pieces from France and they show the character and charm of years of use. We do not sell new or reproduction items so you can expect to find signs of the age and life that the piece has led. We believe this history adds to the story of an item. Obvious damage and faults will always be mentioned in our descriptions but minor age-related condition issues are not considered a detriment.
