Antique French ornate rococo bronze d'or gilt metal wall light

An original bronze d'or rococo wall light which may have been converted from a candle sconce to electricity.
This wall light is rococo in design, made in bronzed metal called bronze d'or (gilt bronze) and may originally date from the eighteenth century, when Rococo was the predominant style for people of wealth and taste.
Each arm is formed in the design of intertwined acanthus leaves and the back plate is formed from scrolling furled leaves. The cups are formed from a circlet of leaves. There are clusters of glass drops called lustres hanging from the arms, the purpose of these was to amplify and bounce the light around. At the top a hook holds a further droplet.
The light fitting on each side is covered by a mock candle sleeve with wax drips, these are slightly tatty but replacements can be bought at homeware stores and online if you prefer. The finish of these light fittings is antique gilt bronze colour.
Size approx height of back plate 26 cm, width 23cm, depth 12cm. Measurements do not include the glass lustres.
As with all vintage and antique lighting, these should be wired and installed by a qualified electrician.
We are able to post out parcels from Metropolitan France and shipping fees are shown, the customer is responsible for any import duties incurred for an item. Please allow plenty of transit time, as European post is notoriously slow! Please also note that deliveries within France are made to a Pont Relais collection point, there are usually a number of these located in shops and supermarkets in each town, and you will be given the opportunity to specify which one you prefer. Deliveries to other European destinations are generally to your doorstep.

Obvious damage and faults will always be mentioned in our descriptions but minor age-related condition issues are not considered a detriment.

Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value.
