Antique salt glazed gres stoneware salt pot by Charles Greber of Beauvais

Shipping to United States: $54.80

A rare example of a salt pot from Charles Greber of Beauvais.
Greber worked at the end of the Nineteenth Century and into the 20th Century, producing ceramics mostly for home decor such as tiles and fireplaces. He worked with salt glazes producing items of ware known in France as Gres.
Earlier pieces featured geometric motifs before his design output became more influenced by the flowing lines and floral themes of Art Nouveau.
Each of his works was produced by hand in his atelier, rather than by mass production. Therefore pieces such as this salt pot are rare and collectible.
The salt pot is designed to be hung on the wall, with a back plate having a hole pierced through for hanging. Originally this item would have had a lid, probably wooden, this has been lost.
The design is of strong diamond lozenges in flow blue and the word SEL in a cartouche on the front. (French word for salt)
The piece is glazed in a grey white typical of the salt glazes used in Gres wares.
There is a stamp impressed into the base, C Greber Beauvais

Size aprox 17cm wide, 12cm deep, 16cm high.

We are able to post out parcels from Metropolitan France and shipping fees are shown. Please allow plenty of transit time, as European post is notoriously slow!
*The customer is responsible for any import duties incurred for an item. We will require a telephone number to add to the customs forms, to help prevent any delays or transit problems. If you refuse delivery of an item due to customs costs, please be aware that your parcel's postage costs will be forfeit, although we are happy to refund the item purchase price upon return.
**Please also note that most deliveries within France and some other European Union countries are usually made to a Pont Relais collection point, there are usually a number of these located in shops and supermarkets in each town, and you will be given the opportunity to specify which one you prefer if this service is available for your location. Otherwise I will select the shop with the longest opening hours within your area. Deliveries to most other European destinations are generally to your doorstep unless it is much cheaper to use Pont Relais.
***Currently deliveries to the UK may be impacted by Brexit paperwork and procedural delays. This situation is becoming easier as time goes by. The sales tax is being included in any sales so there should be nothing extra due to pay when your parcel arrives, subject to customs clearance.

Our items are carefully selected antique and vintage pieces from France and they show the character and charm of years of use. We do not sell new or reproduction items so you can expect to find signs of the age and life that the piece has led. We believe this history adds to the story of an item. Obvious damage and faults will always be mentioned in our descriptions but minor age-related condition issues are not considered a detriment.
