Antique single carved wooden leaf shaped curtain hold back or decorative finial in old gilt gesso finish

A wonderful antique French carved wooden finial, decorative detail or curtain hold back in the shape of a leaf.

It is possible this is a fragment of a mirror surround, being the finial from the centre or corner, or it may be a curtain drape hold back, which would be bracketed into the wall.
I believe the wood to be a softwood. It is probable that this item is Nineteenth Century.

There is a lovely gilt gesso finish to this item, gold over red size.
The leaf has some areas of loss and discolouration to the finish, and some damage, please see photos. It is fresh from the attics of an eighteenth century chateau and I have not cleaned or polished it, preferring to offer in original as found condition. The original wooden spike remains. The item price reflects condition.

Size approx 24cm long, plus 4cm spike. 10cm at widest part and 4.5cm diameter. Price is for one single decorative item.
