An antique, heavy cast bronze d'or curtain hold back hook in classical French chateau style.
This lovely French antique item was originally used to hold back a door or window curtain, and can be repurposed as a stylish chateau chic coat hook if you prefer.
The style is rococo in the manner of Louis XV, from the late Eighteenth or early Nineteenth Century. The hook was probably made in the Nineteenth Century, although it is possible it is of the earlier period.
The decorative end of the hold-back is typically Rococo in styling, with asymmetric scrolling foliate motif. The stem of the hook is quite plain, a beaten metal strip, and this is attached to the back fixing plate by means of a loop so that it is flexible.
The plate itself is an oval cartouche which has decorative detail in classical style, with a small hole for pinning to the wall, and a strip across the back so that it could also be hooked on to a pin or bracket on the wall. This strip has some foundry marks, the letters GH and numbers 448 stamped in to the metal.
Size approx 12cm deep, 30cm long, 6.5cm wide. This larger than average hook has plenty of room inside the curve to hold back a substantial curtain.

We are able to post out parcels from Metropolitan France and shipping fees are shown. Please allow plenty of transit time, as European post is notoriously slow!
*Please note that most deliveries within France and some other European Union countries are usually made to a Pont Relais collection point, there are usually a number of these located in shops and supermarkets in each town, and you will be given the opportunity to specify which one you prefer if this service is available for your location. Otherwise I will select the shop with the longest opening hours within your area. If you would prefer La Poste domestic delivery PLEASE ASK for a quote.
Deliveries to most other European destinations are generally to your doorstep unless it is much cheaper to use Pont Relais.
Outside of Europe we use La Poste International parcel service.

We do not sell new or reproduction items so you can expect to find signs of the age and life that the piece has led. We believe this history adds to the story of an item. Obvious damage and faults will always be mentioned in our descriptions but minor age-related condition issues are not considered a detriment.
