Antique French terre de fer ironstone cake stand compote in classical style floral design

A French antique terre de fer or ironstone fruit compote or cake & sandwich stand with an attractive classical style decoration of flowers in a bluey grey colour on a cream ground.
The stand and the underside of the platter are glazed in a creamy white.
The decoration looks like sprays of wildflowers, perhaps including dog roses and thistles, interspersed with cartouches of geometric pattern and linked with a scroll border. It covers both the plate or bowl, and the base. On the underside of the compote are further sprays of flowers, some of which resemble anemones while others are again reminiscent of wildflowers.
This item probably dates from the 19th century.
Under the base is a retailers stamp rather than a makers mark.
Size approx 23cm across rim, base ring 11cm diameter, 10. 5cm high.
Condition is good, with no major crazing, cracks or nibbles. There are some areas of scratching to the surface and associated discolouration, normal in antique pieces of ironstone. Please see photos as they form part of the description.

Deliveries to most other European destinations are generally to your doorstep unless it is much cheaper to use Pont Relais.
Outside of Europe we use La Poste International parcel service.
The sales tax is included in any sales so there should be nothing extra due to pay when your parcel arrives, subject to customs clearance. *The customer is responsible for any import duties incurred for an item. We will require a PHONE NUMBER to add to the customs forms, to help prevent any delays or transit problems. If you refuse delivery of an item due to customs costs, please be aware that your parcel's postage costs will be forfeit, although we are happy to refund the item purchase price upon return.

We do not sell new or reproduction items so you can expect to find signs of the age and life that the piece has led. We believe this history adds to the story of an item. Obvious damage and faults will always be mentioned in our descriptions but minor age-related condition issues are not considered a detriment.
