Antique pure linen pair of embroidered D or J monogrammed French cushion covers pillowcases or shams.

A beautiful antique pair of French linen pillow shams or cushion covers, with hand embroidered monograms, and hand worked pulled thread edging all around. The pillowcases have a hand stitched initial monogram in the corner which I think is a D but could be interpreted as a C, J or T depending on which way it is viewed.
The pillowcases probably date from the nineteenth century, the sewing in the construction and embroidery is all hand worked. The linen is heavy and quite coarse in texture. It has a beautiful tone of greige, the pillowcases probably belonged to a wealthy landowner's or farmer's wife.
Each case is almost square, and there is a border of textile around the edge in the style known as an Oxford pillowcase. The back of the pillows each has a simple inner overlapping envelope closure which is fastened with small mother of pearl buttons in hand worked buttonholes.

Size approx length 70cm at outer edge, 65cm inside, and width 68cm outside edge, 63 inside. I have used a standard European square pillow which is 65x65cm to give a plump cushion, you could use a slightly smaller filler to give a less full appearance. The textiles have been nicely laundered, there may be an occasional faint dust or storage mark but there are no obvious stains or blemishes.

Price is for two pillowcases, a pair. The inner cushion is NOT included.

Deliveries to most other European destinations are generally to your doorstep unless it is much cheaper to use Pont Relais.
Outside of Europe we use La Poste International parcel service.
The sales tax is included in any sales so there should be nothing extra due to pay when your parcel arrives, subject to customs clearance. *The customer is responsible for any import duties incurred for an item. We will require a PHONE NUMBER to add to the customs forms, to help prevent any delays or transit problems. If you refuse delivery of an item due to customs costs, please be aware that your parcel's postage costs will be forfeit, although we are happy to refund the item purchase price upon return.

Our items are carefully selected antique and vintage pieces from France and they show the character and charm of years of use. We do not sell new or reproduction items so you can expect to find signs of the age and life that the piece has led. We believe this history adds to the story of an item. Obvious damage and faults will always be mentioned in our descriptions but minor age-related condition issues are not considered a detriment.
