A heavy bronze d'or ormolu cast metal wall candelabra electric light fitting with aged patina.
A unique piece which may be from the early 19th century or perhaps before, very heavy cast bronze and later converted to electricity.
The candelabra has a decorative back plate in the shape of entwined foliage, with three branches coming from it. The form is of typically classical rococo motifs, swags of leaves and floral details. Each cup candle holder is also shaped with leaves and cross hatched cartouches. These have naturalistic foliate saucers originally to catch the melting wax.
The item came from the attics of an Eighteenth Century Nobleman's house, It does not appear to have been cleaned, waxed or lacquered in many years and would definitely benefit from some attention and a polish to bring it back to its former glory.
Size approx height 50cm, depth 19cm, width across arms at saucers 34cm.
The cables for power have been threaded through each branch and are held in place with very thin wires. Each cup has a small screw in bulb holder, and a mock candle sleeve in cardboard, with faux wax drops.
Condition is worn, but replacement fittings and decorative elements are now readily available online should you wish to update the fitting. As with all vintage electrical items, this light fitting should be checked and installed by a qualified electrician.
We are able to post out parcels from Metropolitan France and shipping fees are shown. Please allow plenty of transit time, as European post is notoriously slow!
*The customer is responsible for any import duties incurred for an item. We will require a telephone number to add to the customs forms, to help prevent any delays or transit problems. If you refuse delivery of an item due to customs costs, please be aware that your parcel's postage costs will be forfeit, although we are happy to refund the item purchase price upon return.
**Please also note that most deliveries within France and some other European Union countries are usually made to a Pont Relais collection point, there are usually a number of these located in shops and supermarkets in each town, and you will be given the opportunity to specify which one you prefer if this service is available for your location. Otherwise I will select the shop with the longest opening hours within your area. Deliveries to most other European destinations are generally to your doorstep unless it is much cheaper to use Pont Relais.
***Currently deliveries to the UK may be impacted by Brexit paperwork and procedural delays. This situation is becoming easier as time goes by. The sales tax is being included in any sales so there should be nothing extra due to pay when your parcel arrives, subject to customs clearance.
Our items are carefully selected antique and vintage pieces from France and they show the character and charm of years of use. We do not sell new or reproduction items so you can expect to find signs of the age and life that the piece has led. We believe this history adds to the story of an item. Obvious damage and faults will always be mentioned in our descriptions but minor age-related condition issues are not considered a detriment.
