Antique French long heavy cast bronze d'or gilt metal ormolu furniture mounts or garnitures pair

A superb pair of long, heavy cast bronze d'or furniture mounts, in French Eighteenth Century Louis XVI style, with gilt ormolu finish.
These heavy antique cast items are in good condition although a little dusty and tarnished. There were found in the attics of an eighteenth century noblemans house. You might like to clean them up a little, although the gilding is still bright.
The furniture mounts were commonly used in the design of French Eighteenth Century furniture to protect the edges and corners of furniture pieces as they were moved around within the room or from home to home. It was usual for wealthy families to have several houses and to take their furniture with them when they moved from one to another.
These mounts feature swagged and intertwined leaves, with foliage and garlands of berries, and the cartouche at the top is surmounted by leaves imitating a laurel wreath.
At the bottom of the garniture, there is a cast design of chain links. The top is in a stylised form called a gendarmes hat, a common early nineteenth century design motif.
Size of each is approx 28cm high, 7cm wide and 2cm deep. There are small holes to allow the items to be secured to furniture. Each garniture has a small casting fault, a short fracture across the side of the piece, in the same place in each. This is historic and happened at the time of casting, there is no movement in the crack and it dies not go far through the body of the metal to the back.
