A pair of small cast bronze d'or furniture mounts, in French Eighteenth Century Louis XVI style, with gilt ormolu finish. What fabulous Christmas ornaments these would make, hung from your Christmas tree or garlands.
These heavy antique cast items are a little dusty and tarnished. There were found in the attics of an eighteenth century noblemans house. You might like to clean them up a little, although the gilding is still bright.
The furniture mounts were commonly used in the design of French Eighteenth Century furniture to protect the edges and corners of furniture pieces as they were moved around within the room or from home to home. It was usual for wealthy families to have several houses and to take their furniture with them when they moved from one to another.
These mounts feature intertwined leaves, with foliage and bunches of berries, imitating a laurel wreath.
Size of each is approx 17.5cm long, 3.5cm wide and 2cm deep. There are small holes to allow the items to be secured to furniture. One garniture has a small fault, a short tear in the metal which is hidden by the leaves. Each of the pieces is a little bent and twisted, and scratched on the rear, probably from when they were taken off a piece of furniture.

Our items are carefully selected antique and vintage pieces from France and they show the character and charm of years of use. We do not sell new or reproduction items so you can expect to find signs of the age and life that the piece has led. We believe this history adds to the story of an item. Obvious damage and faults will always be mentioned in our descriptions but minor age-related condition issues are not considered a detriment.
