Antique French ornate cast metal gilt finish candlestick

A heavy and well cast base metal candlestick with a finish of gilt lacquer paint with aged patina.
A unique piece probably from the 19th century. The form is of a tripod base with mythical horned men reclining against the centre column, which is also elaborately decorated and has faces or masks on three sides of the globe half way up the column. The tripod base is ornately edged with scrolls, swags and filigree points.

The urn shaped cup for the candle has floral and foliate decoration and is sited on a circular platform of fluted form, to prevent wax spills.

The finish of this item is gilt painted, this has probably been added to at some point, and is worn through to the base metal in places, a good antique gold colour with the patina of age. Please see photos for condition.

Size approx. h28cm, base triangle 14cm each side, cup diameter 3.5cm, aperture 2cm suitable for a standard dinner candle.

Deliveries to most other European destinations are generally to your doorstep unless it is much cheaper to use Pont Relais.
Outside of Europe we use La Poste International parcel service.
The sales tax is included in any sales so there should be nothing extra due to pay when your parcel arrives, subject to customs clearance. *The customer is responsible for any import duties incurred for an item. We will require a PHONE NUMBER to add to the customs forms, to help prevent any delays or transit problems. If you refuse delivery of an item due to customs costs, please be aware that your parcel's postage costs will be forfeit, although we are happy to refund the item purchase price upon return.

We do not sell new or reproduction items so you can expect to find signs of the age and life that the piece has led. We believe this history adds to the story of an item. Obvious damage and faults will always be mentioned in our descriptions but minor age-related condition issues are not considered a detriment.
