A heavy and well cast pair of metal ormolu bronze d'or or brass candlesticks with aged patina.
Unique pieces probably from the 19th century. The form is quite oriental or perhaps mythical with a crested griffon type bird perched on a chain link forming the stem of each candlestick.
The base of each of the candlesticks is oblong in shape, with cast detail of scrolls and beading, with tri-form legs in each corner. Above the griffon are petals forming a circle to catch the wax drips, these resemble a lotus flower.
An urn shape cup with flowers and foliage holds the candle, this has a separate fluted lip which can be removed to allow larger candles to be used, the aperture is suitable for a standard dinner candle.
The bases are weighted, probably with lead or base metal, and the column is bolted through this, there is slight movement so the bolt could perhaps be tightened a little.
The pieces have an aged patina with a little tarnish and discoloration, and drips of old wax.
The candlesticks would definitely benefit from some attention and a polish to bring them back to their former glory.
Size approx height 24.5cm, base 12.5 by 9cm, cup diameter 4cm, aperture of cup 2 to 2.5cm
DELIVERY DETAILS. PLEASE READ
We are able to post out parcels from Metropolitan France and shipping fees are shown. Please allow plenty of transit time, as European post is notoriously slow!
*Please note that most deliveries within France and some other European Union countries are usually made to a Pont Relais collection point, there are usually a number of these located in shops and supermarkets in each town, and you will be given the opportunity to specify which one you prefer if this service is available for your location. Otherwise I will select the shop with the longest opening hours within your area. If you would prefer La Poste domestic delivery PLEASE ASK for a quote.
Deliveries to most other European destinations are generally to your doorstep unless it is much cheaper to use Pont Relais.
Outside of Europe we use La Poste International parcel service.
The sales tax is included in any sales so there should be nothing extra due to pay when your parcel arrives, subject to customs clearance. *The customer is responsible for any import duties incurred for an item. We will require a PHONE NUMBER to add to the customs forms, to help prevent any delays or transit problems. If you refuse delivery of an item due to customs costs, please be aware that your parcel's postage costs will be forfeit, although we are happy to refund the item purchase price upon return.
Our items are carefully selected antique and vintage pieces from France and they show the character and charm of years of use. We do not sell new or reproduction items so you can expect to find signs of the age and life that the piece has led. We believe this history adds to the story of an item. Obvious damage and faults will always be mentioned in our descriptions but minor age-related condition issues are not considered a detriment.
